By Anna Parker

California is one of the most geographically diverse states in the United States with many natural features. Hot springs are some of the most spectacle natural features that make California a truly amazing place to visit. Hot springs can be defined as stream of water that is ejected to the surface of the earth from underground. These features usually form naturally without the influence of human beings. Here are facts regarding Hot springs in California.

The water is at a slightly higher temperature than the surrounding air and the human body. Even when ice is forming in winter, the water stays warmer and unfrozen. The water may become turbulent sometimes due to the formation of bubbles. There are different ways through which this features form.

One method of formation of this feature is through heating of underground water. The water is heated by surrounding rocks so that its temperature and pressure rises. The water is therefore forced through crevices when it expands to the ground surface. The high pressure built into the water by the increase in temperature is what causes it to be pushed to the surface.

Once the water gets to the surface, it forms a pool in most cases. However, there are a few cases where the water goes several feet high before falling back to the surface. A natural water fountain is formed in such a case. Geothermal energy can be produced in cases where the water comes out at a very high pressure.

The water is usually laden with minerals of different types. These minerals make some people believe that the waters have the ability to heal certain skin diseases such as eczema. There is however no scientific proof accompanying such claims. The Californian state is home to very many geothermal springs that provide people great pools of water to soak their bodies in and relax.

These features are located in different places in the state. Good examples are Sierra Spring Resort and Center, Vichy Spring Resort, Wilbur Spring, Desert Spring, and Travertine Spring. Others include The Spring Resort and Spa, Indian Spring Resort and Spa, Beverly Spring, and Desert Spring. People from all over the Us and the world over are attracted to these features.

The Vichy Spring Resort is only two hours away from San Francisco and it has been in existence for over 165 years. The water in most of the springs named above is over 100 degrees F, with high amounts of carbon-dioxide. The facilities feature large swimming pools that are the same size as pools used in Olympic competitions. There are other natural features in the vicinity of most of these facilities too.

Considering these facilities is not only a guarantee to having a good time, but it is rewarding as well. Charges at various facilities vary, with some charging very highly while others charge affordably. There is always something for everybody regardless of the size of budget one is working with.
