By Richard Powell

Australians are very proud of what they have invented and claimed to be their in terms of the culinary world. There are some traditional Australian food recipes which everyone knows about. There are also those which not many people would have heard about. Of course, there will also be those which Australians will be drawn to time and time again, but when you offer the same thing to a tourist, they will probably look in the other direction.

There are a lot of gourmet chefs who have risen to the top in Sydney, in particular. There are all sorts of cuisines here, but traditional Australian recipes are not to be missed out on. You will find that they are styled in more of a gourmet approach. Many people come to the city just to find out more about the food and to pair the fabulous wine with this.

Apart from this gourmet experience, you can't miss out on the more rustic approach which is said to be the real Australia. When you set foot on the red sand, you will know that you are in the outback which is no longer a gourmet experience, but something totally difference, and unique at the same time. This is something that you can't miss out on before you head home.

You won't get the same type of atmosphere in the outback as you do in the bigger cities. Each of these experiences is different. In some places, you may want to learn how to make a type of Australian food which you have only read about before. Learning to do this in the country and being taught by an Australian chef can be a unique experience.

There are many snacks which are made beforehand and are perfect for taking out into the bush. Anzac biscuits are an example of this. They are to commemorate the time when soldiers fought in World War I. The bush tracker is made out of pastry and keeps the energy levels up. This is quite a nutty delight. Of course, breakfast is great with Vegemite which is one thing that a foreigner to this land may turn their nose up at.

When one wants to take a break from this, it is Weet-Bix which one never seem to grow tired of. It has been a firm favorite since the early 1930's. This is when it was invented. It gives you a lot of energy and it can be eaten in different ways with various types of fruit to introduce more vitamins into the day.

Australians claim that they were the nation who came up with pea and ham soup. It is debatable since this particular meal has been a number one favorite all over England and other parts of the world. However, Australians also use sausage for a variation here.

Calamari is made all over the world, but this kind of calamari can be identified with the salt and pepper batter that it is made of. It is deep fried and served with sweet chili sauce which makes all of the difference. If you go into a pub, you will usually see this on a menu, if it is a traditional pub. It is great served with a beer. Australians know how to do this properly so that it is cooked just right.
