Various Techniques Of Grain Drying Alberta

By Donald Moore

Different reasons and needs have brought about the need to preserve food. There are many ways in which this can be done and grain drying Alberta is among the most popular ways. It is necessary when one wants food to have a longer lifespan than it is in its natural form. It is also handy when food needs to be transported to different locations and still get it there in a good state.

Meats were the most significant subjects for this technique. This has however been diversified with fruits and vegetables being introduced to the same for mainly the same reason meat was. The thing with many fruits is that they do not lose their sugar content and levels due to this process. Vegetables, on the other hand, have plenty of uses even in their dried form.

Various machines and application methods are being used to meet this process. Spraying is, however, one of the most widely used methods. The spray has hot gas which breaks down the cereals into fine dry powder with small particles. This is only effective if the food being dried is sensitive to heat and can be broken down by the same.

Though most methods used rely on heat to a high percentage, there is the freezing technique which requires no heat at all. The idea is to subject the food to low temperatures and pressure which result in water removal by sublimation. The significant advantage of this technique is that the original shape of the grain is maintained, and so is the quality. This is why it is an appropriate method to use on coffee.

The drum dryers are precisely what the name suggests. The drum which is the main component is kept at low temperature with high rotation inside used to not only dry the item placed inside but also leave it in small sheet-like particles. This is the method used to come up with cold liquid soluble cereal like those consumed during breakfast. The flavor, color, and nutrients of the grain are not altered in any way during the procedure.

Microwaves and ovens can be subjected to different uses other than their known primary ones of cooking, baking and reheating. For instance, the heat and rotation in them can be manipulated and utilized to dry grains and cereals. Evaporation of the liquids occurs leaving little water content or at times zero content.

Food dehydrators were an invention entirely aimed at this. They are small mostly round devices that use solar or electric energy to get rid of all moisture. This tool is very useful and is known to leave the food with lesser weight. This implies that an individual or firm that ought to transport dried foods should consider this option.

Finally, natural occurring like sunshine is also a means for those that are not aware of all the above methods. Just by putting the cereals exposed to the sun for a suitable amount of time will achieve the same as some of the methods mentioned. You must, however, ensure that the food is not exposed to any contamination during the process. The only reason why this is not commonly used is that it is limited to only days when the sun is up bright.
