Understanding The Beliefs Of A Connection Church

By Eric Adams

For religious minded individuals, there are number of churches at which to worship. While this is the case, Christian denominations and sects can vary a great deal. In the case of a connection church, most are of the Assembly of God denomination.

When it comes to belief and practices, there are essential beliefs which an individual must share to be admitted as a member. The first being, that God is the Universal Creator and Ruler of all representing three personalities, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, otherwise known as the Holy Trinity. While there are three distinct and separate entities, each is an aspect of God.

Those attending a connection based congregation often believe that the spiritual image of God is reflected in man. For, like others, the members believe man was made in the image of God. Whereas, more liberal faiths often focus on to the idea of a gender-neutral God, for there are so many different aspects in humans, that it is hard to believe all were not made in this image.

In most cases, those attending this type of church are believe to exist separated from God through sin until having accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and have asked for forgiveness. If individuals do not accept Jesus or ask for forgiveness, most of these conservative evangelical Christian based congregations preach that those individuals are living, and will continue to live a life in hell, here on on earth and beyond.

While most churches believe in the Kingdom of God for those whom accept Jesus as Savior and walk a Godly path on earth, not all believe in the same aspects of salvation. For, some Christians believe that Christ died for the sins of the world, and that all are the children of God and thus, have been saved through the spilled blood of Jesus.

Salvation, according to those involved in the faith is a gift from God to man. While this is the case, man can never overcome sin through self-improvement or by becoming involved in good works. In fact, the only way to salvation is to receive Jesus Christ and share in the belief of the Holy Trinity. After which, through prayer, study and worship the individual can become closer to all aspects of God.

Once having received Jesus Christ as Savior, the individual has been saved by the grace of God. As such, salvation is an everlasting gift which requires no self-effort on the part of the individual. As a result, the individual is maintained by the power and grace of God through the Bible which while written by the hands of men is the one and only inspired word of God.

Most all believe the holy spirit is equal with the Son of God, and the Father. The purpose of the spirit it is believed is to make mankind aware of the need for love and light of Jesus Christ. As with Jesus Christ, the holy spirit resides within each Christian from salvation through eternity. As all individuals sin, ongoing prayers for forgiveness are the only way to maintain a clean heart and spirit while reflecting the light of love of Jesus in everyday life.
