Chick Peas, Fava Beans And Other Healthy Choices

For at least one hundred years the lifespan of the average person has increased due to medical knowledge improvements. These improvements has helped educate people when it comes to making choices that result in healthier diet plans. People are leaving traditional meals behind in favor of less red meat and more substitutes such as fava beans, chick peas, and other high protein diets.

Environmental concerns, health concerns, and physical ailments have pushed the average population to seek a wider choice of foods to enhance and improve their diets. These choices have included making changes to accommodate the rising obesity rates, hypertension, and diabetic instances. The traditional meat and potatoes diet, though still popular in many places, has been replaced with creative and even ancient practices for meal preparation.

Vegetarians and vegans do not use meat based foods in their diets. Without pork, beef, fish, and poultry in the diet there is a problem with lack of proper proteins, fats, and vitamins needed. These must be replaced by other foods rich in the properties. Quinoa, lentils and other legumes are rich in these essential proteins and vitamins needed for the diet.

Medical advancement has discovered that some people cannot process meats. There are several reasons for this to be true. Lacking proper enzymes, low acid content in the stomach, and other scenarios can force a person to abandon meat altogether. When this happens, it is important to find an appropriate substitute in order to maintain what your body needs to keep muscles healthy.

Legumes are a great source for fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. These all need to be included in a healthy diet. Because the meat groups provide most of the fat and protein in a healthy diet, using different legumes as a replacement is essential. Nuts, peas, beans and lentils are all part of the legume family.

Soy burgers, milks, and other bean based choices have greatly improved in both availability and flavor. For the last 50 years, alternative meat and milk choices have grown in popularity. This growth has pushed the food industry to being providing better tasting versions in order to compete. Large and small restaurants often mark their menus with the healthier choices. Many have even shifted their menus to include vegan and vegetarian meals to attract people who both need and want better choices.

Fresh or canned items abound. Those with great cooking skills are able to store and prepare fresh or dried products. Some with limited time or skills may find buying canned or frozen versions of bean based products just as healthy. Though freshly made is nearly always better, the canned and frozen versions have improved their vitamin counts as people have become more aware of what is in the can.

While some people choose to avoid meat, others must avoid it. Dietary requirements force some people to turn to alternatives because they cannot process meats or have other illnesses that require them to move towards healthy alternatives such as legumes. It doesn't really matter what the reason for these choices. In the end, the popularity of these alternatives has increased over the last century and there is no end expected.
