By John Edwards

Despite the fact that you can buy almost anything at a convenience store these days, some people still prefer to make their own products at home. This might include jams and preserves, pastries and even alcohol. There are different home brewing supplies currently available in the market. This can allow you to start making your own beer, from the comfort of your home.

As with every process, there are the specific tools of the trade which are used. With the making of beer, the equipment might vary depending on the type of beer, the experience, of the person brewing and the amount of beer to be made. Therefore, three categories of equipment that can be bought from the store. These are department store kits, small batch home brewer kits, and classic home brew store kits. These kits provide the materials needed for the process. From the equipment to the ingredients.

When you select the supplies you need, you will have to consider the ingredients you will use when making the beer. When bought as a kit, the prices may vary depending on the specific materials included in each specific kit.

Bacteria can be found on almost any surface. Once you have bought all the equipment, you need to rewash everything again. You should use non scented dish washing fluid. If you use one that is scented, it may alter the flavor and aroma of beer. You will also need to wash the bottles and buckets using sanitizer, in order to get rid of any bacteria or microorganisms. When these are left, they can affect the fermentation process and even ruin the process.

The second most important part of this process is getting the right ingredients. Malt extract, sugar, yeast, hops and water. All these apart from the water will most likely be purchased with the equipment. They are all necessary in the right proportions and will determine the eventual taste and quality of your beverage.

The whole process is long and may take over a month to complete. It involves boiling the malt, adding the hops, then letting this mixture cool. You can then add the yeast. Due to the specific nature of yeast, it needs to be added at a particular temperature, in order for it to ferment the mixture. After this, you should store the wort in a place that is easy to clean and has a steady temperature.

This mixture is left for about three weeks in a cool, dark environment. The fermenting vessel can be changed at least once to allow for the settling of sediments. After this sugar is added to the mixture and it is bottled and capped. It will then be left to allow for carbonation. At this point, you can put it in the fridge and after a while, pour yourself a glass.

As a beginner, you can opt to play around with the flavors by using different yeast or hop varieties. If you start making the beer and notice you have a surplus, you can also opt to sell it. This is legal in the United States, as long as you are registered and the product has been tested and approved. This will allow you to engage in your hobby while also making some money on the side.
