Locating A Christian Social Justice Blog

By Kimberly Phillips

With current news and world events, many Christians and others are looking for an emotional outlet in which to post comments, ideas, theories, or simply vent. There are a number of blogs, forums and other sites which feature or report on different forms of social justice with Christianity only being one aspect. As such, each individual must discover a Christian Social Justice Blog based on personal beliefs, experience and other factors.

For some, performing work in this arena and doing good deeds along with faith is all that is required to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Whereas, others, simply see it as an act of kindness. As such, it is up to each individual to decide which blogs might be beneficial to enhancing the spiritual journey. Still others, view this work as setting up a more just and promising future for heaven on earth, a future yet to come.

Some churches and religious organizations have established social justice programs as part of a larger church community. While most often churches offer a set time for worship, often it is church members who set up meetings and operate a blog or forum. In some cases, all external conversations, discussions and forums are held online.

Whether secular, or religious, these type programs often focus on helping those in need. Be it individuals who the church sees as lost, vulnerable or weak in spirit. Good examples of these individuals might be juvenile delinquents, the poor, the physically challenged and the terminally ill among others.

With the biblical interpretation of the word just meaning to make right, Christians often perceive taking an action in this regard making things right with God. Whereas, others see making things right with others having a component of making things right with God. Regardless, when it comes to these type programs, the emphasis is most likely going to lie with making things right with God regardless as to whether or not forgiveness can be obtained from others.

While most religious programs focus less on action and more on outcome, others only want to help those in need. As such, many individuals often get bogged down with the issues rather than how those issues will effect people in the future. For example, it would be great to see the world as a fully functioning egalitarian paradise though this is something that most agree will never be a reality.

For many, a Christian perspective of social work is more about creating an entry to the kingdom in the here and now. For, in participating in these type programs, it is believed that believers are working toward a more just world in the future. Whether it's abuse to human rights, dying infants, economic exploitation or human trafficking, it is often clear that those living a more just life will often also find a more just future.

Whether believer, or non-believer, church goer or non-church goer, all individuals have the ability to work in some aspect in ways that will help others. While this type blog may focus on those most in need, there are also other areas in which help is necessary. Some of these can range from online spiritual counseling to one-on-one meetings with community members. Whereas, others have been known to volunteer at homes for the elderly, food banks and organizations.
